The Marshall Mathers LP 2 is the eighth studio album by American rapper Eminem, scheduled to be released on November 5, 2013, by Aftermath Entertainment, Shady Records, and Interscope Records. Production for the album took place from 2011 to 2013 at several recording studios and was handled by Eminem and other record producers, including Rick Rubin, No ID and Dr. Dre. The album is a sequel to Eminem’s third studio album, 2000′s The Marshall Mathers LP.
Eminem discussed the album in an interview with New York radio station Hot 97, with host Peter Rosenberg on May 24, 2012. During the interview he also confirmed that hip hop supergroup Slaughterhouse would be performing at Hot 97′s Summer Jam. In this interview, Eminem said “I’m kinda getting into my next record a little bit.” On June 30, 2012, Eminem talked about the album with DJ Whoo Kid, on Eminem’s radio station, Shade 45. He said the material was taking shape and that his mentor Dr. Dre would be involved in the process. Eminem explained: “I usually get going and kind of start going a certain direction and just record what I’m feeling. Then I’ll go see Dre and fill in some of those pieces”. Royce da 5’9″ appeared on RapFix with his group Slaughterhouse, on August 30, 2012, and talked about what he has heard of the album in the moment. Royce confessed: “I’m not so sure how the world is going to respond from some of the things that I’ve heard from him”. He also noted that the things he has heard gave him nightmares. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 was named to multiple “Most Anticipated Albums of 2013″ lists including appearing sixth by Complex Magazine and fifth by XXL.
GOOD Music and Roc Nation record producer No I.D. told MTV News, on September 5, 2012, that he would be with Eminem in the studio recording the upcoming album. No I.D. explained the conversation he had with Eminem, saying they spoke about working together and agreed to get in the studio and see what they could do. He said: “He’s one of the best, I want to work with one of the best and try and give some music contributions. I think that would be one of the next steps in that lineage of what I’m trying to do.”

On August 25, 2013, during the MTV Video Music Awards, it was revealed that Eminem’s eighth studio album would be titled The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (a sequel to his previously-released album The Marshall Mathers LP) and would be released on November 5, 2013. He also revealed that the first single “Berzerk” would be released on August 27, 2013. The song was produced by Def Jam founder Rick Rubin, and was premiered on Shade 45 the day before its retail release. The single debuted at number two on the Canadian Hot 100 and number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, among the top forty in many other countries. On September 9, 2013, the music video for “Berzerk” premiered on Vevo. The video featured cameo appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Kid Rock, Slaughterhouse, Mr. Porter, Yelawolf, Rick Rubin and Paul Rosenberg.
Activision announced on September 9, 2013, that players who preordered Call of Duty: Ghosts at GameStop would receive a bonus track in addition to “Survival”, and could purchase the album at a reduced price.
